What Happened To The BrokenLens Server?

Brokenlands was one of the biggest servers in the Minecraft Bedrock Edition space, well known for the extensive list of game modes but in spring of 2022 the iconic server came to a close. Many old broken lands fans are wondering what happened and how could a server that was so big all of a sudden shut down. In this post we go over What Happened To The BrokenLands Server?

WHAT IS THE BROKENLENS SERVER?

Brokenlens was created in the earliest days of Minecraft's day. It was created during 2013, a time where Minecraft Bedrock Edition did not even exist at the time. The server was one of the few that worked on Minecraft Pocket Edition which at the time had no featured server and an extremely limited amount of blocks. It was a server that was on the rise and was featured on many big YouTube channels at the time such as JackFrostMiner, HerobrineSkull and much more. It was with the help of these videos that brokenlens started growing and growing.

Brokenlands was not the only server on the rise. Other servers such as Lifeboat were also growing a lot during this time due to the amount of content promoting it online. Montages were made on these servers and even some useful pvp tutorials.

THE CREATION OF MINECRAFT BEDROCK EDITION

Minecraft Pocket Edition was a growing game that more and more people found interest in. In an effort to make Minecraft more universal, Mojang decided to create Minecraft Bedrock Edition which would include Minecraft Pocket Edition, Xbox and Windows 10 under the same umbrella. This would allow for players on these devices to play together and have the same features which was a major accomplishment for Mojang. With Minecraft Bedrock combining all these platforms together, Minecraft servers would have a lot more potential in terms of growth.

As a result, Microsoft reached out to certain servers to be featured on the homescreen, giving them a new insane level of reach in the Minecraft Bedrock community. Some servers got partnered such as Lifeboat, and cubecraft. However, Brokenlens was not partnered.

This would be one of the first cracks that would eventually lead to the end of the server. With these servers having the help of Microsoft, Brokenlens struggled to compete with them. Featured servers would have access to high level partnerships such as the Hive partnering with SEGA to create the Hive sonic event. Unfortunately, Brokenlens would not have access to such resources and as a result their server started falling behind in terms of quality

BROKENLENS BURNOUT

Brokenlens would not update its server often, causing more and more people to become less interested on the server. Featured servers were getting better and people were playing those servers more. Brokenlens has tried to add new game modes but often with little success.

Years went on and the server kept on declining in users. It got to the point where over half of Brokenlens game modes were completely empty. Content on Brokenlens was in decline and people were more focused on the featured servers.

COSTS

Making Minecraft servers can be extremely expensive. From the hosting, to the staff, developers and marketing, the costs can really go up. Brokenlens relied on players purchasing ranks and kits for money but after the massive decline in players, Brokenlens started struggling selling their ranks. This would lead to Brokenlens losing money and not making any profit. After months of making no money, the server owner decided to shut down the server and move on from the Minecraft server space.

Brokenlens had a crazy story, filled with ups and downs and while we did not get a happy ending, the server still made history and will never be forgotten.
